Migmatite in Monarch Canyon in the Funeral Mountains, Death Valley, California. The gneiss is in the highest-grade region of the Mesozoic metamorphic terrain. Associated pelitic schist contains the assemblage garnet + biotite + kyanite + muscovite + quartz.
